What is Accelerated Reader?
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a program used by Regina Catholic Schools to support student reading. At the start of the school year, students take "STAR" tests which determine their Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) which is a reading range suggestion. Students are told their reading range, which is represented by a colour dot placed on the spine of the book.
Once students have read a book, they can take Reading Practice quizzes which assess comprehension. For each correct answer, students receive AR points. Students will make goals with their teacher individually or as a classroom to earn a certain number of AR points.
