February is here, and along with it we usually get cold winds, freezing temperatures and the realization that it’s getting more and more difficult to remember what the yard looked like without snow covering it. To battle all of that coldness, we fill February with the warmth of our loves ones, whether it’s on St. Valentine’s Day or on Family Day.
What better way to warm up than by grabbing a couple of blankets, maybe a cup of hot chocolate, and snuggling in with your loved ones to read a story?
This month at St. Bernadette Library we will be staying warm in lots of ways! We have Reading Night on February 25, and all families are welcome to come out and do some reading in a cozy corner of the library. Students can help defeat Dr. Octopus, who is attacking the super-hero school, by reaching their class AR goal. Check out the bulletin outside the library to chart your class’ progress! Students from grades 5 to 8 who are taking part in Battle of the Books will be staying warm during their school games in the library at lunch time, and in their preparations for zones on March 3 and March 5. Before St. Valentine’s Day, students will be encouraged to go on a blind date with a book. Students will have the choice to loan books that have been covered in brown paper, with only a few descriptive words on the cover. AR Ballots will be available again in February for the first two weeks. Students who get 90% or higher on their AR reading quizzes will be able to enter a ballot to go on a blind date with a book to keep! Winners will be chosen during the assembly on February 13. Finally, I will be encouraging students to stay warm this month by showcasing books that have a tropical destination as the setting – if you can’t be somewhere warm you might as well imagine that you are!
