On Friday, St. Bernadette School hosted the AR kick off assembly!
Many of the teachers looked like they were ready to head off on a vacation! Perhaps it was because they were so excited to start on our journey to “Read Around the World” this year!

Outside the library is our world map, and we will be travelling around the world in a few ways! First, classrooms will be able to “travel” to the destination of their choice when they reach their AR goal. Their classroom airplane will be placed on their destination whenever they reach their goal.
Second, we will be putting pins in the map to show where students can “travel” to when they read a book. For example, with Jack and Annie from the Magic Tree House books students are able to head to Frog Creek, Pennsylvania. If you read Harry Potter, students can travel to the UK! Look out for new pins being added throughout the year. Students can track their reading travel by filling out their reading passport, which is available from their teacher or from the library.
Finally, students can put themselves on the map. When families are on vacation throughout the school year, we encourage students to take a “book selfie” as they read in their destination – with parents’ permission of course! Then, those pictures can be sent into the library and we will put them on the map wherever students were reading.
